JOANNE LOMAS BFA,SOVA
Artist Joanne Lomas and her husband had planned to do a very extensive world trip on their own craft, but that was prior to the Covid pandemic. Now, the artist packed her painting gear away, while the house was being sold, and they moved to Wasaga Beach, while they find an artist’s dream house in Huntsville.
Joanne has been playing with photography and was successfully juried into and exhibition in Collingwood, and will be returning to her painting. The whole area is absolutely stunning, with Algonquin Park and other scenic locations so we look forward to seeing her new body of work.

FROM THE ARTIST…
It’s been a difficult year for all, for myself having to close the Gallery in Niagara Falls down for several months and reopening again, the arts adds a much needed distraction from what we’re experienced this year.
It was an honour to be asked to Jury this year’s Headwaters Arts, The Fall Festival, Artful Revival juried Show, a yearly anticipated juried show by southern Ontario Artists. I’m happy to see that the arts are alive and well, it’s more important than ever to have arts and culture in your life.
I have been jurying shows for over 10 years and it never gets easier, due to the exceptional number of entries this year it was extremely difficult to narrow the selection down to 52 works, I know each artist put their heart and soul into their work and as a juror it’s never easy to not accept work into an exhibition, there are many reasons works are accepted and not accepted to create a well-balanced show. What I look for is originality, if the piece evokes a feeling or emotion, if it has a message or is able to start a conversation, offer a unique point of view, if it keeps my attention or draws me in and adds to the overall experience of the show, I also enjoyed doing the Juror’s walk on Sept 27th where I got to engage one on one with the artists.
Artists Lynden Cowan and Steve Wilson are in the November 2020 edition of Fine Art Connoisseur .
