SOVA is five years old now. Above is Artist Charlene Nickels holding our SOVA sign, as we pack and get ready for our first official group exhibition.
Southern Ontario Visual Artists
The Southern Ontario Visual Artists are an eclectic group of nine artists who have become friends over the years, and a formal exhibition group going in to their fifth year. All artists have exhibited extensively, with many of them also showing internationally, and have many awards among the group.
The professional artists are dedicated to their artwork, and the mandate of SOVA is to collaborate and provide opportunities to share their view of the surrounding community and vision of nature.
By being highly supportive and providing encouragement to each other in the group, members have the courage and dedication to expand their use of their medium, pushing themselves to experiment with different ways to express themselves.
Each artist takes their turn at being the lead contact for an exhibition, and because the nine members are spread in different cities, they have the choice of attending meetings in person or on Skype so that everyone can discuss pertinent issues.
The SOVA artists decide together where they wish to do group shows, and limit these shows to four in one year because they are also involved with other groups such as the Colour and Form Society, the Ontario Society of Artists and the Society of Canadian artists.
It’s been a busy five years, and each artist has grown in their art practice. Wonderful having the support of each other.
