Johnny Bower passed away on Boxing Day, 2017 . I always thought of him as a very personable, sweet man. In 2005, I was selected to create a painting for Peel Regional Police to be presented to Johnny as he was their Honorary Police Chief. They had certain key elements they wanted in the painting, and the family sent private photos so they could surprise him at a banquet. I painted the background as a feeling of ice to tie all the elements together. Johnny, you will be missed.

Charlene Nickels

Charlene Nickels is primarily a water colour artist who in 2021, after 42 years living Ontario, moved back home to the Prince Edward Island. She started painting in oils at a very early age, and it opened a whole new wonderful world for her leading to many different creative media through the years. About thirty years ago she felt the need to get back to painting, to put balance back into her life, and decided to try something she had never worked with, water colour. She was fortunate to receive instruction from one of Canada’s prestigious water colourist, Mr. Jack Reid.  A beautiful and sensitive medium, she found water colour to be a joy and it has become her passion. To a lesser degree, she also works with oil/acrylics/mixed media and ink.   Charlene would describe herself as a Realist painter and the subject matter of her paintings is mostly inspired by photo’s she has taken of things that have either caught her eye because they’ve connected in some way, or are things that have a direct personal connection. Her love of detail and strong colours proves to be quite a challenge with water colour but she finds the results rewarding. Up until moving back, Charlene’s work was viewed at her studio at Alton Mill Arts Centre, Alton Village, Caledon, Ontario which is a vibrant thriving art community. She has served on the board of directors for Beaux Arts Brampton and finished her term as Vice President.  During her term as Vice President, she instituted an art show, "Young At Art”, for young artists in the community to show case their work. She was a long time member of The North Brampton Water Colour Society up until disbanding in 2019.     Her work can be found in private collections in North America and the Netherlands. She has shown her work in a number of group and juried shows. She is one of three founding members of a group of artists, SOVA, www.southernontariovisualartists.com : a member of Artisans Waterfront, www.artisanswaterfront.ca : Associate of CSPWC/SCPA

Her original art work and photographs can be found at her studio and gallery space at Alton Mill Art Centre, and prints of her works are available for purchase on the website. Margaret also participates in juried shows around southern Ontario and internationally so check out her website for a show near you.

Lynne Schumacher

Biography of Lynne Schumacher

I was born Toronto, 1950 and started painting at an early age. I studied commercial art at Central Technical School under Doris McCarthy before turning my attention to landscape painting. Many hundreds of hours were spent in the Northern Ontario forests researching, sketching, photographing and painting my subjects. A considerable amount of my childhood was also spent in Nova Scotia where I developed a love for the sea and the Maritime way of life.

My previous work was based on close studies of trees, their many textures, moods and the effects of the various seasons upon them. I developed a great love and respect for nature and painstakingly applied paint to canvas to capture a startling realism and a boldness of colour and texture. My landscapes show the wonderfully varied beauty of the Canadian land.

I started exhibiting in 1973 at the Arts-in-the-Parks and then subsequently the Markham Art Show, Carling’s Art Show, Toronto City Hall and many other annual group shows in the Toronto area. I have participated in the following art sales events:

Toronto Art Expo

Kempenfest (Barrie)

Muskoka Art Show

Junction District Arts Festival

Distillery District Arts Festival

Burlington Art Market

Credit Village Marina Art Show

University of Guelph Art Exhibition

Ottawa Art Festival

Riverdale Art Walk

Buckhorn Fine Arts Festival

McMichael Volunteers Art Show and Sale

The Artist Project Toronto

Headwaters Art Festival

Arts on the Credit

My paintings will be found enhancing numerous collections by both private and corporate collectors throughout Ontario, across Canada, the United States, England, Germany and China.

I have received various letters of commendation from noted Canadian galleries. I have been written up in the Toronto Globe and Mail, the Mississauga Times and the Brampton Guardian. I have won first place awards in various art competitions.

In addition to landscape painting, I have expanded my horizons to portray the rich diversity of our community in the people and their colourful cultural contribution to the Canadian mosaic.

My paintings operate on many levels involving form colour and place. They aim to visibly document my thoughts and try to express my vision, pulling the viewer into another world. Lately, my artistic visions have taken on a more abstracted quality, experimenting with different media and allowing me to develop new ideas.

I am a member of Beaux Arts Brampton, Colour and Form Society and Ontario Society of Artists. I am also a participant in the Art Gallery of Ontario Arts Rental programme, the Art Gallery of Hamilton Arts Rental programme and the Arts Etobicoke Rental programme.

My recent entries to juried shows include:
